about me
Katherine Kangas earned her Masters degree in Conflict Resolution from Portland State University, and has been working in the field as a professor, facilitator, and mediator for the last fifteen years. She was born and raised in rural Eastern Oregon, and is now raising two children with her husband in the Willamette Valley.
Her work is informed by neurobiology, somatic psychotherapy, and the understanding that peaceful resolution - and the capacity to be curious and to co-create new solutions to intractable problems - all begins in the body, and is predicated on a safe and regulated nervous system.
Katherine guides her clients through structured conversations that cultivate presence and careful listening.
At the very least, mediation allows both parents to hear and understand one another more deeply, and self-advocate more precisely. A framework for more effective future communication is initiated.
At the most, mediation shifts the stuck and adversarial energy enough to allow fresh ideas to come forward, livable solutions to be crafted, and durable agreements to be made.
Whole brain collaboration can lead to remarkable creativity and sincere buy-in.
At the heart of Katherine's work is the conviction that kids profoundly benefit when parents deliberately, and of their own volition, do the hard work of getting on the same page, and learn to cooperate on their children's day-to-day flourishing.
Conflict is hard, and the only way to the other side is through. The good news is you don't have to go alone.
